ORGANIZATIONS WE WORK WITH INCLUDE:

WESTFED FOOD PANTRY  Each month, different items are requested to keep up with pantry needs.  Weekly updates are listed in the Sunday bulletin.  Throughout the year, members volunteer at the pantry, located at Grace Lutheran Church, packing bags and distributing food and toiletry items to needy residents in the 45211 and 45238 zip codes.

FAMILY PROMISE (FORMERLY IHN)  Our church is one of many local congregations that support Family Promise, previously known as Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Cincinnati.  Five weeks of the year, Westwood United Methodist Church hosts families needing housing, providing shelter, meals, and fellowship during their stay.  Our committee members prepare a Friday night meal each of these weeks for the homeless who have sheltered at Westwood UMC that week.

The mission of this organization is to provide homeless families emergency shelter and hospitality through interfaith communities and to work with these families to find and retain stable housing.  Services of the Greater Cincinnati Family Promise program include providing private sleeping space, meals, transportation to interviews and to a day care center in Lower Price Hill, and after school tutoring.  Should you know of a family requiring this kind of assistance, you may have them call Family Promise at 471-1100.
More information on the national organization is available at http://www.familypromise.org/
Local information can be found at www.wumc.cc/what-we-do/outreach/ihn/

FESTIVAL OF SHARING  Church World Service, an interfaith organization, sponsors Festival of Sharing in late summer.  Church members are asked to fill a bag with school supplies or create health kits to be distributed to needy families around the world.

NAST TRINITY UMC  Once a year, we provide a Sunday evening meal to residents of the Over-the-Rhine area at Nast Trinity UMC.  Community residents have a devotional time in the church sanctuary before entering the dining area.  Our congregation prepares casseroles, the committee provides the remainder of the meal, and volunteers are solicited to serve and clean up at the church.

.

CROP WALK  Each October we walk/sponsor a walker to raise funds to fight hunger through local projects and international relief and development.  The walk begins at St. John's United Church of Christ in Newport, Kentucky taking us through Newport, across the Taylor/Southgate Bridge, winding through downtown Cincinnati and back across the Purple People Bridge, returning to St. John's.  Three local agencies, Manna Food Pantry in Price Hill, WestFed Food Pantry and My Neighbor's Place both in Westwood, will be recipients of 25% of the money raised by participating west side churches.

THE GIVING TREE – THE WESLEY EDUCATIONAL CENTER  In December, members have the opportunity to provide Christmas gifts to children enrolled at the Wesley Education Center in Clifton.  Wesley is the oldest child care facility of its kind in Cincinnati.  Established in 1920, Wesley Center provides infant and childcare in a Christian environment.

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.  And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV)
